FEM-Frustration
Who is Sonja?
As an engineer, Sonja is responsible for closely analyzing the behavior of plastic parts in their intended applications.
A molded part can be examined individually or as part of an assembly.
The process begins with 3D CAD data, which serves as the foundation for creating a networked model. However, CAD files are often flawed, containing either inaccuracies or unnecessary details beyond the scope of analysis.
Adding to the challenge, boundary conditions provided by customers are frequently incomplete or incorrect. But how can reliable simulation results be achieved without precise knowledge of where the part will be placed and which forces it will endure?
Then, there’s the calculation software itself. While its mathematical core is impeccable, the user interface is outdated and cumbersome.
Setting up contact conditions and local mesh refinements requires significant effort.
A single mistake can cause the solver to fail, forcing time-consuming adjustments.
These are the challenges Sonja tackles daily. And if a component later fails in the real world? All eyes turn to her. Because when things go wrong, the engineer is always to blame.
Tune in to the start of her song!
