I sit here with my pencil tight, sketching through another night,
The customer calls, says, “I’ve got a dream, make it real, sleek, and clean.”
“What size?” I ask, “What shape, what look?”—”Oh, you know, just like a hook!”
I sigh, I draw, I dare to try—until they tell me, “No, not my guy!”
“Make it round but sharp and square,”—a paradox beyond compare.
“More colors please, but not too loud—make it subtle, make us proud!”
I tweak, I bend, I shift again—the twelfth design looks quite insane,
But just as I think, “This must be it!”—they change their minds within a bit.
“Tell me what you really need,” – “Oh, we’ll know it when we see!”
“Make it modern, make it bold—wait, not like that, too bright, too old!”
“Just one more change, and then we’re through!” – “Scratch that, let’s start with draft one-two!”
I sigh, I nod, I take the blame—while someone else will claim my fame.
“Just send me details, just a clue?” – “Oh yes, of course, we’ll send them through!”
Weeks go by, my inbox bare, they swear it’s coming—but it’s air!
I rack my brain, I drink my tea, I wonder what my life must be,
Then after months, they break the news—”We liked the first one, that will do!”
I laugh, a hollow sound, accept the fee—a joke, I’ve found.
Then headlines flash, my work is seen—”The genius mold, our bright machine!”
The money flows, but not to me—just enough for beer, maybe three.
I drink a toast, I shake my head—to the irony that keeps me fed.
